ENSURE THE SAFETY OF YOUR PROCESSES USING THE LOTO PROCEDURE

LOTO, combining safety and time efficiency

What is the LockOut-TagOut (LOTO) procedure?

The purpose of lockout is to ensure the safety of workers by preventing the restarting of a machine or part of the installation during maintenance, servicing, adjustment, etc.

Lockout procedures are used in all industries and are regulated in many countries.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS IN A LOCKOUT PROCEDURE?

  1. Separate

  2. Lockout

  3. Identify

  4. Check for absence of voltage

  5. Earthing

In a lockout procedure, the worker must begin by identifying all potential power sources to a device or part of the installation.

After isolating (separating) them, the procedure requires them to be locked out. A lockout/tagout clamp is often used. It allows each worker (electrician, mechanic, etc.) to attach their own padlock, guaranteeing their own safety.

A label is then affixed to each padlock to identify its user.

The equipment or part of the installation cannot be restarted until all participants have removed their padlocks.

Save time using MARECHAL® technology

MARECHAL® devices facilitate the implementation of the lockout procedure:

How to lock out a MARECHAL® device?

This device is valid for the following ranges: DS6, DSHT, DS9, DS2, DS4.

A similar device also exists for our ranges: DSN1, DS1, DSN3, DS3, DSN6.

Summary of the video

  1. When ordering a MARECHAL® socket, add suffix 843 to the socket outlet reference, padlocking will then be fitted during manufacture.
  2. To lock out the socket, insert the locking pin into the hole below the release latch.
  3. Fix one end of the retaining cable to the pin and the other to the socket mounting screw.
  4. Lock the pin in place with a padlock or a safety hasp/padlock combination or directly through the pin hole (8 mm diameter hasp required).

NB: In some particular cases, safety prohibits the disconnection of an appliance in normal operation: smoke extractor, lift pump, emergency circuit... The lockout of MARECHAL® appliances is then also available in connected position.
